Trampling Effects on Coastal Dune
نویسندگان
چکیده
Long-term human trampling on coastal dune vegetation was analysed using eight 100 × 100m study areas ranging in trampling intensity JJ'om little or no past trampling pressure to severe trampling pressure. All trampling levels significantly reduced species diversity. Total vegetation cover was significantly reduced only in areas with severe and heavy trampling pressure. Where long-term moderate trampling did not affect total cover, it appears to have Javoured Ammophila breviligulata over other more sensitive species. The data suggest that long-term trampling pressure has caused a shift in the horizontal pattern oJ vegetation, i.e. expanding the width of thejbredune plant community, while restricting the interdune community to a narrow strip at the base of" the backdune ridge.

Response of three plant communities to trampling in a sand dune system in brittany (france).
Dunes that are protected because of their very rich and diverse plant communities are often exposed to excessive visitor pressure. The effects of trampling on the habitat must be known from a conservation viewpoint but also are important for management. To determine the response of plant assemblages to trampling by people, an experimental study was conducted on the state-owned dunes at Quiberon...

Soil seed banks, habitat heterogeneity, and regeneration strategies in a Mediterranean coastal sand dune
This study investigated the effects of microhabitat characteristics on soil seed bank structure, regeneration strategies, and plant composition in a Mediterranean coastal sand dune in Israel. Three different microhabitats were selected: (a) open patches between shrubs, (b) shrub understorey, and (c) open, disturbed patches in pedestrian trails. In each microhabitat two types of sampling plots w...
متن کاملThe effect of microhabitats on vegetation and its relationships with seedlings and soil seed bank in a Mediterranean coastal sand dune community
We examined species composition and diversity of vegetation and soil seed bank associated with different microhabitats in Mediterranean semiarid sand dune community, to identify which functional groups or species benefit from trampling, and to provide a basis for management. In this community microhabitats were found to significantly influence species abundance and biomass of dominant functiona...
متن کاملEffects of human trampling on a rocky shore fauna on the Sao Paulo coast, southeastern Brazil.
Increased tourist activity in coastal regions demands management strategies to reduce impacts on rocky shores. The highly populated coastal areas in southeastern Brazil are an example of degradation caused by development of industry and tourism. Among different shore impacts, trampling has been intensively studied, and may represent a significant source of stress for intertidal fauna. A randomi...
